Redefining
Unmoderated Research

Unmoderated UX Research has proven extremely valuable in conducting quick turnaround, larger sample size research with greater statistical significance.

However, historically unmoderated UX Testing has been limited to simple tasks performed on websites or web applications. URI has developed proprietary technology using cloud hosted Virtual Machines that allows the testing of complex scenarios, more control of study environment setup and detailed metrics.

URI’s Unmoderated approach allows you to:

  • Conduct unmoderated testing on desktop applications and support complex cross platform scenarios
  • Capture detailed, accurate data including video, screenshots, keystrokes, text entries and survey data
  • Utilize AI to validate task success based on participant behavior and test environment state
  • Set up and configure research environments similar to traditional in person lab sessions
  • Provide interactive data gathering by displaying targeted questions to participants when certain criteria are met

Our Approach

Cloud-Hosted Virtual Machines

In URI’s Unmoderated Studies, participants connect to a custom built virtual machine hosted in the cloud. This machine can have multiple desktop applications, sites or web apps installed to be tested individually or to complete an entire scenario.

Enables:

  • Testing of desktop applications
  • Testing of scenarios involving multiple products, applications or websites
  • Testing of scenarios requiring multi-factor authentication
  • Installing of monitoring tools on the VM to track users behavior

Control Over Data Gathering

Unlike browser based unmoderated testing, VM based testing allows the Researcher to set up the desktop environment exactly as they prefer without concerns about conflicts with the user’s browser or computer setup.

Key Benefits:

  • Allows complete control of the desktop environment
  • Scripts can navigate participants directly to the starting point for tasks, requiring fewer instructions, saving time and reducing confusion
  • Prototypes can best tested on the VM guaranteeing a true representation of the User Experience

AI Task Validation

AI programs in the background of the Virtual Machine being used for tasks allows tracking of behavior, clicks and other actions not possible through a browser extension.

Examples:

  • Record success when a page, UI element, image or section of a page is viewed
  • Record success when certain text is typed
  • Record success when and item is created or edited

Interactive Participant Feedback

Our tools are able to launch a specific question to participants based triggers preestablished triggers.

Examples:

  • Follow up if a participant spends an extended amount of time on a certain page
  • Ask a participant to give an explanation if they enter a specific search query
  • Ask a user if they understand an error message at the time it is triggered
  • Redirect users back to the golden path if they stray off track
